How this calculator works
Enter your loan amount, annual interest rate, and tenure (in years or months) to see your monthly EMI, total interest payable over the life of the loan, and total repayment amount. The year-by-year breakdown shows exactly how much of your repayment goes toward principal versus interest each year, and how your outstanding balance shrinks over time.
Why the interest-to-principal split changes every year
A loan EMI stays the same every month, but the mix behind it doesn't. Interest is charged on whatever balance is still outstanding, so early instalments are mostly interest and later instalments are mostly principal. This is completely normal for any reducing-balance loan — home loans, car loans, and personal loans all work this way — and it's why paying even a little extra early in a loan's life saves disproportionately more interest than paying extra later.
A note on accuracy
This calculator uses the same reducing-balance EMI formula lenders use for fixed-rate loans. Your actual lender may add processing fees, insurance, or apply slightly different day-count conventions, so treat the result as a close estimate for planning purposes rather than an official loan quote.
