GSTIN Validator

Validate a GSTIN's format and checksum digit instantly, and see the state and PAN it decodes to — catches typos before you enter a GST number into an invoice or portal.

How this tool works

Enter a GSTIN and click Validate. The tool checks that it's exactly 15 characters in the correct format, then recalculates the built-in checksum character and compares it to the one provided — this catches almost any typo, since changing a single character almost always breaks the checksum. If it's valid, the state and embedded PAN are shown as well.

Why the checksum matters

Every GSTIN's final character is mathematically derived from the first 14, using a checksum algorithm. This means a single mistyped digit or letter — easy to do when copying a long alphanumeric code — will almost always produce an invalid checksum, catching the error before it ends up on an invoice or GST return.

A note on what this doesn't check

Format and checksum validity are not the same as active registration. A GSTIN can be perfectly well-formed and still belong to a cancelled or suspended registration, or simply not exist. For that level of verification, use the official GST portal's "Search Taxpayer" tool.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded or stored.
