PAN Card Format Validator

Check whether a PAN (Permanent Account Number) is correctly formatted, and see what holder type it indicates — individual, company, firm, trust, and more.

How this tool works

Enter a PAN and click Validate. The tool checks that it's exactly 10 characters in the correct pattern — 5 letters, 4 digits, then 1 letter — and decodes the 4th character, which indicates the type of PAN holder (individual, company, firm, and so on).

What this tool doesn't check

Unlike a GSTIN, a PAN's final character isn't a publicly documented checksum digit that can be independently recalculated — the Income Tax Department has never published the algorithm. This tool validates structure and decodes the holder-type character, but it cannot confirm a PAN is genuinely issued, active, or correctly matched to a real person or entity. For that level of verification, use the Income Tax Department's official PAN services.

Privacy by design

Validation happens entirely in your browser using a simple pattern check. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
